Next steps:
Based on my findings from Phase 2, if I were to to continue teaching this same group of students next school year, I would provide them with more opportunities to share and connect with my former students in Chula Vista. For example, I would give my students the opportunity to hear back and learn from their Spanish-speaking peers in terms of their personal experiences as a Latino with Spanish language and culture. It would also be great to allow them to continue sharing and connecting with each other throughout the school year and allow these students to both strengthen their connection to their foreign-speaking peers and deepen their connection to Spanish as a language and culture.
In the future, I would also like to connect my students via technology with foreign peers who are learning Spanish. Because I lived abroad for seven years, I have a network of teachers who teach Spanish in international schools around the world. By connecting my students to foreign peers who are learning Spanish, they would have the opportunity to practice their Spanish while learning about a variety of diverse backgrounds and cultures, thereby deepening their sense of global awareness.
